Manpower Inc. Provides Update on Post-Hurricane Employment Situation and Status of Recruiting Offices
MILWAUKEE, Sept 06, 2005 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Manpower Inc. (NYSE: MAN) is deeply saddened by the tragic hurricane and flooding along the Gulf Coast of the United States and is providing the following update on the employment situation and our operations.
Hotline Established for Employees of Offices Closed due to Hurricane/Flood Damage
Of the 22 Manpower offices located in the hurricane-affected areas in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida, 19 are currently operational and are actively assisting evacuees and others in finding permanent and temporary employment. The three offices that remain closed due to damage and/or lack of electricity are located in Metairie, La.; Pascagoula, Miss.; and Laurel, Miss. All temporary and contract employees who worked through these offices or are seeking employment in the nearby area are asked to call the Manpower Hurricane Hotline toll-free at 1-866-592-7212.
Manpower Still Searching for More Than 200 Employees
At the time of Hurricane Katrina, Manpower had 42 employees working in our 22 offices throughout the affected region, and we are relieved to confirm that all of these employees are safe. There were an additional 500 temporary and contract employees on assignment at our client locations throughout the region at the time of the hurricane, and we have determined that half of them are safe. We are still actively trying to obtain information on the whereabouts of the remaining employees and urgently ask them to contact us via the Manpower Hurricane Hotline at 1-866-592-7212 to let us know if they are OK, and advise how we can help them.
Helping Evacuees Get Back to Work
Manpower is aggressively working to find jobs for the evacuees throughout the affected region, as well as in many outlying states where the evacuees are now moving in order to find longer-term housing. As of Tuesday, September 6 at mid-day, Manpower has found jobs for more than 325 evacuees, and we have several hundred other candidates in the process of preparing for assignments. In many of our offices surrounding the hurricane-impacted areas, the number of candidates we are seeing is double to triple the normal volume. Our services to evacuees include helping them to recreate their work history and resumes and, where necessary, working with community resources to secure work clothing and transportation to their new jobs.
More Jobs Available Throughout the Country
Manpower has immediate openings throughout the country, as well as in communities along the Gulf Coast, for permanent and temporary jobs in professional, industrial and administrative positions, and we encourage all interested individuals to contact us. Many of our 75,000 clients across the country have been actively partnering with us to provide opportunities to the evacuees, regardless of available documentation on their prior work history.
